Okay, I've spent the last year trying to be optimistic, and reading the last couple of weeks worth of Ran's blog has really brought home to me how foolish I've been. He keeps talking about taking a couple of thousand years to learn to build complex yet non-heirarchical systems. We don't have that long. Let's have a show of hands: who thinks the planet's ability to support life is even going to survive the next century at the present level of abuse? Better still, who doesn't think that the looming resource scarcity is going to trigger a nuclear holocaust?
