Carey (zombans) and I (one of the other zombans) are taking an official Permaculture Design Course in Stelle, Illinois, in August. Has anyone else taken a PDC? Comments? Advice?
The textbooks for this course are Intro to Permaculture by Mollison & Slay, and Gaia's Garden by Toby Hemenway. We've read both & they're both great--Gaia's Garden is excellent for people wanting to know what to do with their yard, very accessible & inspiring. Intro to Permaculture is more wide-ranging than Gaia's Garden but not as overwhelming as Mollison's Permaculture Designer's Manual.
The generous people who are helping us take this course also gave us the Designer's Manual (which we've browsed in the past, never had a copy of our own though), and another book recommended by the people putting on the course: Edible Forest Gardens by Dave Jacke with Eric Toensmeier. This is a two volume set! Vol. 1 is theory and vision; vol. 2 is design and practice. So far I've read a little bit of vol. 1, and it's awesome.
