Remember those tin-foil-hat-wearing psychos claiming that silver could cure diseases?
The fringe scientist lunatics were, of course, correct. They call it "Silver Nanoparticles" instead of "Colloidal Silver" to avoid calling it the same thing as the folks they've been calling quacks for the last seventy years.

Since we're on the fringe, it makes me wonder if there is (or was) such a disease as lycanthropy, whether or not there were actual honest-to-god werewolves. And whether or not silver was used to cure lycanthropy. And whether or not silver came to be considered a "lunar" metal because werewolves "changed" under the moon...
