Following my passions on the Internet last year, through homesteading into radical environmentalism into anarchism into primitivism, I stumbled upon
Ran's wonderful essay, "How to Drop Out" and was instantly inspired by his ideas in a way surpassed only by Thoreau. Since then, I have been
reading through his essays and regular posts, and just now finally got around to joining the message board.
I am seventeen years old and reside with my two parents and 3 younger siblings in a massively mortgaged immorally suburban home in the ironically named town of Niceville, Florida. Before school homework levels began consuming most of my waking hours last year, I had many wonderful hobbies: gardening, birdwatching, reading, baking, hiking, and much more. My turn into the ideas on this site came because I began to see my participation in the usual goals of an intellectual high schooler (and beyond) as unsustainable, destructive to my health, to the Earth, and, contrary to what everyone says, destructive to both my intellect and my financial future as well.
At the moment my only goal in life is to survive high school and college as best I can until I can find a way to safely jump ship. Hence I am here to discuss with y'all on how best to do so.
Until next time:
Goodbye! Au Revoir! Adios!
P.S. I forgot to mention my greatest ability: walking. I have walking abilities that few can surpass. (How's 17 miles on sand on a whim for ye?)
