That was a good read, meaning, I agree! I haven't owned a car in a long time, and when I occasionally ride in one, I'm always taken aback. I've driven once or twice in the last six months, and shocking! Driving on a hot day, in a hot car, across hot pavement--this is a past-time? Roads, pavement, parking lots, we are building deserts. Since I don't have much of what you would call a job, the crisis of how to commute to work in an age of increasing gas prices is irrelevant.

I like smelling human. I like germs. They make the smell of kimchi permeate the kitchen. I'm finding local farmers to buy milk and cheese from (in addition to the farmers we know through our local farmers market. It's good to know the ever-increasing cost of corn is not going to affect their grass-fed cows (at least not as much comparatively). I ate a bison burger yesterday and it was tasty. I sure wish we had millions of buffalo eating prairie grasses that grew on the Plains, instead of lots of mega agribusinesses, holocaust feedlot beef, and a record-setting dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe someday we will.

I do think that doing many things differently will have some kind of effect on our global culture, as well as our local one. It will encourage different feedback cycles, and times change. Riding a bike, sharing food, giving away plants, playing with the kids and taking time for the old ones, along with bucking the church of the work-consume-die ritual--it seems like this has to make a difference. I know it has in me.
